THE DECEPTION OF THE LASSET PROJECT IN LAMU, KENYA by Douglas Omare

50 years since Kenya got its independence, Coast residents have remained in the dark crying for the government to remember them when distributing its resources.

In Lamu, Kenya (on the border with Somalia) a fledgling project to build a huge new port, oil refinery and transport hub on Kenya’s northern coastline promises to deliver thousands of jobs and is a pillar of the government’s long-term development agenda. I talked to the local residents to highlight their grievances as well as try to talk to experts to give a way forward.
